Hi All,
For anyone who knows me, you know that when I am put onto a "mission" I don't stop until I find IT - whatever it is. For instance, my friend Jill often mentions in conversation a thing she is shopping for but cannot find. Generally is a description of something she has in mind but has not found it nor has she really looked for it. Usually, being the competitive person I am, I rise to the challenge and find several options in her price range for which she is looking. Frankly, I think she has caught onto me and now "mentions" stuff a lot! :)
So, when thinking about what to say, I played off this very compulsive behavior I have to develop Theme Thursdays. I have decided to come up with a weekly theme and blog every day or two about something different, yet keeping within that theme. I will also take suggestions (PLEASE!!). Some posts will be helpful, some will be just random, but will be within the theme. I will try to provide any helpful sites as well.
Ready?? here it comes!
The First Theme - Games
I know, sounds random, but you will see there is a method to the madness.
For E's 4th birthday we stepped out on a limb and bought him a Wii. We are not video game people, but the Wii seemed like great fun and not just for your thumbs. He has taken to it like we never thought he would; we too have taken to it like we never thought we would. Bowling is probably the best one of them all. And don't get me started on the Wii Fit Board!
E plays the Wii at least 3 days a week when we get home from work/school. He has great skill at most games, although Mario Kart is not his best game (I hope this isn't telling of when he turns 16). He concentrates so hard and is so animated with his motions. Not to mention, he is 5 and knows how to do just about anything with the Wii - start it up, change games, reset everything, etc. Amazing how well he handles technology as a 5 year old.
I have shared some of the pictures from tonight...in the first one he was actually telling me to stop bugging him!
We don't have many games, but the ones we do have been carefully chosen for the age. (brace yourselves, here comes the helpful part) SO which ones would be good for your preschooler/elementary schooler?
Really, all you need is the games that come with the system. Comes with 5 sports games - Bowling, Tennis, Baseball, Golf and Boxing. No need to spend a fortune on a bunch of games. But, if you are looking for more, stick with character based games like Cars, Ratatouille, Pajama Sam, etc. If you are branching out beyond Disney, the old school Super Mario Bros or Mario Kart is ideal. One of the better random ones we have gotten is Wee Fish. Fantastic!
Where to find? Any big box store. But, I honestly recommend Ebay (www.ebay.com). Especially for accessories. Also, rent the games to figure out if your child likes the one they are dying to get. Local libraries may rent them, but trusty old blockbuster (www.blockbuster.com) is ideal too. And then search Ebay for a steal. ;)
That all for today! Stay tuned for the next GAMES installment.
Cheers!
