This winter has been the snowiest winter on record for the Washington DC metro area. We have had 55.4" of snow so far since December. I don't think there is any immediate forecast for more. Yesterday we had a "blizzard" which means, it snowed and the winds were around 35 MPH. We got 12 more inches to go on top of our 36 we received this weekend.
Schools were closed (including day care) and so were the offices. When I went downstairs to my home office, this was my view.
Not too bad right? So I went to let the dog out. Since we can't open our back door again because of the drifts, we went through the garage. But my very pampered pooch couldn't just go in 10" of snow you know...I had to shovel a potty strip! In my pajamas no less.
Just when I have settled into my office to get ready for a conference call, I hear knocking on a window. I am thinking, "who is knocking on my back window, especially at this hour? Are the neighbor kids out in this?" Nope...this is what I was hearing.
That is ice on the tree branch banging against my window with the wind. problem 1. its loud. problem 2. its annoying. problem 3. its a large chunk of ice - will it break my window if a strong enough gust comes up? problem 4. its too high to clear off from the outside, and the top of my window doesn't open. Guess I will just have to cross my fingers it doesn't break and wear my ear plugs.
I did venture out yesterday, but with my specialized training in blizzard driving, I was able to make it to the gas station (light was on - hubby not happy), check to see if there was any milk at the closest grocery store and pharmacy (there wasn't), and the next closest grocery store (empty and totally stocked. I was in grocery store heaven). I found lots of milk and some bread. Just to be clear, I was NOT stocking up for this "emergency". I ran out of milk because I couldn't get any for a week since the rest of the residents of Northern VA (NOVA to us in the hood) panicked and had bought it all. No milk = no coffee = no sanity. Totally requires driving in a "blizzard".
Just for fun, here are some other pictures from yesterday's "blizzard".
Theme Thursday will be coming later, but will just warn you, I will be taking the lead of the schools and resuming regular schedules in the next week. This means Lists will be extended. :)
Stay warm America. Over and Out.
Sounds familiar. Here, 2" of snow equals a blizzard. Not kidding!
