For the first time since moving 4.5 years ago, I MISS KANSAS. I have always always always missed the people, missed some of the restaurants sometimes, but not really the area. I LOVE Virginia. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It is so historic and beautiful with character. However, at this time of year, I MISS KANSAS. I did a little in previous years, but not like this year. WHY??? Because of the Holiday Mart, the Plaza Lights and the cold temperatures.
First the holiday mart is the epitome of awesome craft (not kitschy crafty) show that has so much holiday cheer. oh and the ladies night out where wine is served doesn't hurt either. i have decided i WILL be going to Kansas next october. there is just nothing like the holiday mart in the entire DC metro area. one would think given the size of this community, we would have something...anything. but just same old craft fairs.
Secondly, the plaza lights are SO beautiful it puts the national christmas tree to shame - TO SHAME! when the lights are on, it is so much fun to have dinner or go shopping before the holidays. again, nothing quite like it here.
finally, its 66 degrees today. its almost thanksgiving. i am almost 9 months pregnant. i am not happy. can i PLEASE have some 40s or even low 50s? since i have a mini heater already inside my belly, mother nature needs to start cooperating. i am sure she will step up next week when we are in hershey park (an amusement park) riding rides out doors. i won't be...i will be renting a scooter because of the aforementioned really really pregnant status.
so i am done complaining. but i am not going to start using capital letters.
we are almost done with the baby's room. we have the crib up, painting of a firetruck up, his name on the wall (guess we are committed to the name now!) and a rug in. bought shelves today and took pictures to frame last night. i am putting pictures of E in my father's firefighter gear (helmet and coat) in his room as an inexpensive way to decorate with fire stuff. the pic actually came our really well. i am going to give some to my parents too. i do not have pictures of the room YET. we just weren't done yet so didn't want to post anything only half done. BUT here are some of E from the photo shoot i did last night...
I think he has a career in turn out gear modeling. :)
Finally, thanksgiving company is on its way tomorrow...everyone should be here by tuesday night or wednesday at lunch time. we are NOT making a turkey believe it or not. we are going to have beef. i, again, am playing the pregnant card and wanting to do something way easier than a turkey. not to mention, i can do beef on the grill and not make the house so warm. again, refer to the heater comment above. i think everyone but my father in law will be ok with it but we can work around that with some chicken or salmon or something. i am up for mixing it up this year. christmas - watch out...i will be 3 days post birth so pb and j may be our holiday feast.
peace out...
Beef for Thanksgiving makes me love you more!! Hope you are doing well. Are you due the 21st? That is Gavin's birthday . . . love you - Jill
